If you’ve been dreaming of getting married with the ocean as your backdrop, salty air in your hair, and something that feels relaxed, intimate, and completely you—a Stradbroke Island elopement might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Just off the coast from Brisbane, North Stradbroke Island (or “Straddie” as the locals call it) is one of the most naturally beautiful and laid-back places to get married in Queensland.

And honestly? It’s kind of magic.

Why Choose a Stradbroke Island Elopement?

Eloping isn’t about “less”—it’s about choosing what matters most.

And Stradbroke Island gives you:

  • Stunning coastal backdrops without the crowds

Where Can You Elope on Stradbroke Island?

There are so many incredible ceremony spots, depending on the feel you want:

🌊 Point Lookout

Think dramatic cliffs, endless ocean views, and those iconic coastal backdrops. Perfect for something breathtaking and a little bit wild.

🏖 Cylinder Beach

Calm, sheltered, and absolutely stunning. This is a favourite for relaxed, barefoot ceremonies.

🌅 Amity Point

For soft sunsets and a quieter, more intimate feel—this spot is magic in the late afternoon.

🌿 Straddie Chill

If you’re dreaming of something a little more private and styled, this beautiful Airbnb-style accommodation is perfect for an intimate elopement. Think relaxed coastal vibes, space to get ready on-site, and the option to flow from ceremony straight into a laid-back celebration. It’s ideal if you want your day to feel effortless and completely your own.

Each location brings something different, and I help my couples choose the one that fits their vision best.

And if you’re wanting your ceremony to look as beautiful as the location itself, I always recommend working with someone who knows the island inside out.

How to Get Married on Stradbroke Island (Legally)

Even though it’s relaxed and beachy, the legal side still matters—and I make sure it’s all taken care of.

To legally marry in Australia, you’ll need to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM).

👉 If you’re not sure what that involves, start here:
Notice of Intended Marriage QLD: Timeline, Rules & How to Lodge Your NOIM

The key rules:

  • Must be lodged at least 1 month before your wedding

  • Valid for 18 months

  • Requires ID and (if applicable) divorce documents

I guide you through this so it’s simple and stress-free.

How Do You Get to Stradbroke Island?

Getting to Straddie is part of the experience (and it’s an easy one).

You’ll travel via ferry from Cleveland:

  • Vehicle ferry → if you want to bring your car

  • Passenger ferry → quick and convenient

From there, it’s a short drive to all the main ceremony locations.

When is the Best Time for a Stradbroke Island Elopement?

Queensland weather is pretty kind—but timing still makes a difference.

☀️ Best months:

  • March to May (autumn)

  • September to November (spring)

🌅 Best time of day:

  • Early morning → soft light, fewer crowds

  • Late afternoon → golden hour magic

I always help plan your ceremony time around the light, tides, and overall feel you want.

What Does a Stradbroke Island Elopement Look Like?

This is where it gets really special—because it can be whatever you want it to be.

Some of my couples choose:

  • A simple, heartfelt ceremony with just the two of them and two witnesses (photographer and stylist)

  • A small gathering with family and lunch or dinner after

  • A relaxed beach ceremony followed by a weekend getaway

Planning a Stress-Free Stradbroke Island Elopement

The biggest misconception about eloping is that you have to figure it all out yourself.

You don’t.

When you work with me, I help you with:

  • The legal paperwork (NOIM sorted properly)

  • Choosing the perfect ceremony location

  • Timing your ceremony for the best light and conditions

  • Creating a ceremony that actually feels like you
