Brisbane Wedding Celebrant – Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve never organised a ceremony before. As an experienced Brisbane marriage celebrant, I’ve answered some of the most common questions couples ask — clearly, honestly, and without jargon.

If your question isn’t listed, you’re always welcome to get in touch for a relaxed chat.

How far in advance should we book a Brisbane wedding celebrant?

Popular Brisbane wedding dates (especially Saturdays, spring, and autumn) often book 9–18 months in advance. If you have a specific date or celebrant style in mind, it’s best to enquire as early as possible.

That said, I’m always happy to check availability — even for shorter notice weddings or elopements.

What does a marriage celebrant actually do?

A marriage celebrant:

  • Legally marries you under Australian law

  • Prepares and lodges all required paperwork

  • Guides you through the ceremony structure

  • Works with you to create your Ceremony script

  • Delivers your ceremony on the day

As your celebrant, I also:

  • Help you feel calm and prepared

  • Create a ceremony that reflects you

  • Ensure everything flows smoothly and on time

  • Provide the essentials for Ceremony music and ensures everyone can hear your ceremony

  • Hold a rehearsal so you can feel less nervous on your Wedding Day

You’re not just booking someone to read words — you’re choosing someone to set the tone for your entire wedding day.

What paperwork is required to get married in Australia?

To be legally married in Australia, you must:

  • Lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least 1 month before your wedding date

  • Provide proof of identity and birth

  • Provide evidence of how last marriage ended (if applicable)

  • Declare you are legally free to marry

I guide you through every step and make sure everything is completed correctly and on time, so there’s no stress or confusion.

Do you help us write our vows?

Yes — absolutely.

I can:

  • Provide vow-writing guidance and examples

  • Help you structure your vows

  • Review your vows privately if you’d like

Some couples write their own vows, some prefer guidance or inspiration, and others choose traditional wording — there’s no right or wrong. I’ll support whatever feels most comfortable for you.

Can we personalise our wedding ceremony?

Yes — and that’s one of the most important parts of my role.

Your ceremony can include:

  • Personal stories

  • Your choice of tone (relaxed, traditional, modern, light-hearted)

  • Readings or rituals (optional)

  • Personalised vows

Every ceremony I deliver is written specifically for the couple — never copied or generic.

How long does a wedding ceremony usually last?

Most wedding ceremonies run for 15–20 minutes, depending on:

  • How long your processional (entry) is ie if you have a large wedding party it will be a longer processional and therefore wedding

  • Whether you include readings or rituals

  • The length of personal content

  • Your preferred pacing

I help you find the right balance so your ceremony feels meaningful, not rushed — and not too long for guests.

Do you offer elopements and micro weddings in Brisbane?

Yes.

I officiate:

  • Elopements (just the two of you or a few witnesses)

  • Micro weddings (usually under 50 guests)

  • Backyard, park, beach and private property weddings

These ceremonies are smaller, but still personal, professional and meaningful.

Where do you officiate weddings?

I’m based in Brisbane (Mitchelton) and officiate weddings across South East Queensland, including:

  • Brisbane CBD and suburbs

  • Sunshine Coast

  • Gold Coast

  • Scenic Rim and hinterland

  • North Stradbroke Island

  • Moreton Island

If you have a location in mind, just ask — I’m happy to travel.

Do you attend rehearsals?

Yes, I strongly recommend to have a rehearsal, some of the things I guide you through at a rehearsal are:

  • Where to stand

  • When to walk

  • How the ceremony flows

If a rehearsal is needed, we can discuss this during planning.

What happens if something goes wrong on the day?

One of the benefits of choosing an experienced Brisbane celebrant is knowing someone calm and prepared is leading your ceremony.

I:

  • Arrive early

  • Coordinate quietly with music and venue staff

  • Adapt smoothly if plans change

  • Keep the ceremony relaxed and flowing

Most couples tell me this reassurance made a huge difference.

How much does a Brisbane wedding celebrant cost?

  • Ceremony type

  • Level of personalisation
